Dear Soil and Water Conservation District Employee:

 

My name is Jackie Bailey, I was elected President of the Florida Conservation District Employee Association (FCDEA) at our annual meeting held in August in conjunction with the Association of Florida Conservation Districts (AFCD) meeting.  Following in Barbara Gill’s footsteps is going to be a tough job.  Barbara was the force behind forming our association.

 

In the past three years we have accomplished the following:

Through membership fees and silent auctions our banking account has a balance of $1,157.05.

We have paid stipends of $150 for three district employees to attend AFCD’s annual meetings.

We have been present at the AFCD annual meeting each year.

We have been present at the Southeast CDEA annual meeting each year.

Our President has been present at the National CDEA meeting.

 

At the AFCD and the CDEA meetings employees attended training workshops.  A variety of subjects were covered including: how to take better pictures, how to keep your district legal, how to get your success stories published in newspapers, how to recruit and utilize volunteers, how to write grants, how to find funding, how to speak to an audience.  Share fairs were presented and success stories were shared. Each district is different and just getting to know each other, hearing what the other districts are involved in and meeting the other district employees is exciting.

 

My goal for the next year is to create a newsletter to be sent out bi-yearly to share the successes of Florida’s Soil and Water Conservation Districts. 

 

The strength of any organization is in its members.  As a larger body, we can offer opportunities for SWCD employees to play a more active role in the successes of their Conservation Districts.
